ISBN Assignment

Life to Legacy will assign an ISBN, or International Standard Book Number and the bar code to your book. The ISBN is a 10 and 13 digit number that uniquely identifies books and book-like products published internationally. The purpose of the ISBN is to establish and identify one title or edition of a title from one specific publisher and is unique to that edition, allowing for more efficient marketing of products by booksellers, libraries, universities, wholesalers and distributors.

The ISBN is a numeric code (specific to both the publisher and edition) that identifies a book, like a fingerprint. In the past, ISBNs were ten digits, but as of January 1, 2007, the book industry transitioned to a thirteen digit ISBN format. Each ISBN is composed of four parts: the group or country identifier, the publisher identifier, the title identifier and the check digit. This essential book publishing service allows your book to have its own unique identity, applicable worldwide.

Assigning the ISBN does not replace legally protecting your material!  Obtaining a copyright is a crucial step in the book publishing process. All copyrights on Life to Legacy titles are registered in the author's name to protect his or her intellectual property. The copyright legally affirms that the author is the sole owner of the work and prevents others from reproducing it, producing a derivative work, distributing copies, promoting it or displaying it publicly without permission.
